Story and Background

Luella graduated from University with a First degree BSc Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors and began her career at Matalan as a Footwear and Accessories Designer. Over the next eight years she progressed through a range of creative and leadership roles becoming Design and Licensing Manager for a leading supplier to the U.K High Street. She worked with retailers such as Next, Tesco, Primark, Boots, Sainsburys, Asda, Crew Clothing, Joules, Mamas and Papas, developing a strong professional network and portfolio.

The Journey

Being responsible for a large design team and managing an extensive license portfolio of highly recognisable family loved brands such as Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Warner Brothers, Peppa Pig, Cocomelon, LOL Surprise, Sonic the Hedgehog to name just a few Luella has a wealth of experience and is an expert in her field.

Where It All Began..

The studio began in 2018 when a former colleague asked Luella if she could help build a website for their new business. She set about teaching herself how to build a website and launched their website within six weeks! One project lead to another – branding, websites, marketing materials, menus, business stationery – and soon, small business owners were reaching out regularly.

During lockdown, while expecting her first baby, the business continued to grow. Launching an Etsy store and became a creator on Thortful, posting orders daily – often during ‘nap time’ walks!

After maternity leave, balancing motherhood with a demanding corporate role was challenging and so the decision was made.

I took the leap and built the business I once dreamed of – Luella York online home and gift store was born!

Working tirelessly between naps, feeds, walks and play Luella set about to build an E-commerce store. Buying products in that she could stock and sell to like minded new mums and their babies.

Today, The Studio Exists For You.

Luella’s Design Studio is a corner of the world wide web where you can see and here about our projects – from home crafting, sketching, knitting through to commercial work.

We continue to support small businesses to look their best, feel confident online and show up with the brand they are proud of.
